The 23rd edition of the Cyprus Film Days International Festival is fast approaching. As Cyprus's premier international film event, the festival will take place from 4-12 April at its traditional venues: the Rialto Theatre in Limassol and the Zena Palace Cinema in Nicosia. Each year, the festival broadens its mission to offer audiences on the island a panorama of contemporary cinema, showcasing a wide range of global trends and emerging voices. This year’s programme, curated by artistic directors Argyro Nicolaou and Marios Lizides, features a diverse selection of films that engage with pressing social issues and explore cutting-edge artistic themes.
The Glocal Images International Competition Section presents seven films that delve into the complexities of the modern world, exploring social, political and personal narratives. This year saw a record number of submissions, accompanied by a noticeable rise in quality, reflecting the festival's growing reputation as a key platform for international independent cinema in the region. The Cypriot Films Competition Section showcases three unique works by Cypriot directors, which are also competing in the Glocal Images International Competition Section, fostering connections between local talent and global cinematic trends. Montenegrin producer and director of the Film Centre of Montenegro Aleksandra Božović leads this year’s five-member international jury. She is joined by independent film curator and art manager Delphine Leccas, award-winning Hungarian director-screenwriter György Pálfi, co-founder and director of Les Arcs Film Festival Guillaume Calop, and Cypriot actress Agni Scott. Cyprus Film Days is co-organised by the Deputy Ministry of Culture of Cyprus and the Rialto Theatre in Limassol, under the auspices of the municipalities of Limassol and Nicosia, in partnership with CIPA Film in Cyprus.
