The Media Company, a new European production studio, has been launched by a trio of industry veterans, comprising former StudioCanal CEO Didier Lupfer, ex-TF1 executive Édouard Boccon-Gibod and tech innovator Tariq Krim. The studio’s aim is to revolutionise the film industry through the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into every stage of the creative process.

The Media Company’s mission is to harness the potential of AI to support creative teams, streamline production workflows and optimise budgets. The founders see AI as a tool to enhance the creativity of, rather than replace the artistry behind, film and TV projects. The studio incorporates AI technologies into key production stages, including script development, previsualisation and casting simulations. This approach promises faster, more efficient production, transforming traditional practices and establishing a new rhythm for cinematic content.

Lupfer, who is also the co-founder of Ubisoft Motion Pictures and whose career includes producing Assassin’s Creed and the animated Raving Rabbids series, views AI as an opportunity for European cinema to differentiate itself from Hollywood by focusing on originality and innovation. Boccon-Gibod brings strategic leadership honed at TF1 and EuropaCorp, while Krim, the founder of the pioneering platforms Netvibes and Jolicloud, contributes his expertise in leveraging technology to reshape creative industries.

The Media Company’s first project, Jules Verne contre Nemo, exemplifies its ambition. Based on Céline Ghys’ bestselling novel, the film is a detective thriller set in 1882, written by Victoria Musiedlak and Julien Despaux, with Despaux also directing. The story explores historical settings and intricate character dynamics, with AI tools used to enhance previsualisation and visual design, helping bring the narrative’s vivid historical world to life. Another project that is currently in development is La Fille du Terrassier, a mainstream comedy written by Guillaume Clicquot and directed by Olivier Baroux, known for his success with the Les Tuche [+lee también:

franchise. Here, too, AI tools are being utilised to refine the creative process, demonstrating the studio’s commitment to blending technology with diverse genres of storytelling.

The Media Company is positioning itself as a transformative force in European filmmaking, dedicated to collaborating with international talent to produce original and mainstream films and series. By seamlessly integrating AI into its core creative processes, the studio is aiming to redefine traditional production methods and establish a new benchmark for the future of cinema.
