This week, the 82nd Venice International Film Festival (27 August–6 September) has unveiled its official selection, and among the standout world premieres announced is Father Mother Sister Brother, the latest feature by acclaimed US filmmaker Jim Jarmusch. The film will screen in the festival’s competition, vying for the coveted Golden Lion, and marks the director’s first narrative feature to be selected in the Lido’s main strand.
The Ohio-born helmer, one of the key indie cinema auteurs since the 1980s, is best known for titles such as Stranger Than Paradise (winner of Cannes’ Caméra d’or and Locarno’s Golden Leopard in 1984); the Cannes Competition entries Down by Law (1986), Mystery Train (1989), Dead Man (1995), Ghost Dog (1999), Broken Flowers (Grand Prix in 2005), Only Lovers Left Alive [+lee también:

In detail, Father Mother Sister Brother is a triptych that explores emotional estrangement and familial ties across three interlinked stories. “Father” is set in the Northeastern United States, “Mother” unfolds in Dublin, and “Sister Brother” takes place in Paris. Jarmusch’s signature contemplative storytelling is supported by an impressive international ensemble cast, including Cate Blanchett (seen last year in Rumours [+lee también:
