ficha de la película], the new documentary by Moldovan–Austrian–Romanian director Pavel Cuzuioc, will celebrate its world premiere in the Semaine de la Critique of the upcoming Locarno Film Festival (6-16 August).
Through the story of Dr. Johann Spittler, a neuropsychiatrist who has assessed hundreds of people seeking the right to die, Green Light offers rare insights into the ethical, emotional but also very practical complexities of assisted suicide. As societal debates heat up, Cuzuioc’s camera stays intimately close to Dr. Spittler, a man whose daily work seems guided by a commitment to empathy and clarity, and to the people that seek him out. Written and produced by Cuzuioc himself, the film deliberately concentrates on the conversations and Dr. Spittler’s work process, capturing them with a calm, attentive gaze. As the movie follows Spittler and his assessments, it also asks important questions about the burden of responsibility, beliefs, and stoicism in the face of human despair.
Green Light is produced by Austria’s Pavel Cuzuioc Filmproduktion and co-produced by Romania’s Zenobia Film.
