The adaptation promises to remain faithful to Austen’s original 1813 novel, while aiming to reintroduce its characters and themes to new audiences. "Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy," Alderton commented, highlighting her aim to bring a fresh energy to the material while preserving its timeless wit and social insight.
Corrin, who also earns their first executive producer credit on the series, described playing Elizabeth Bennet as “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” The actor leads a cast that also features Fiona Shaw as Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Anjana Vasan and Sebastian Armesto as the Gardiners, and Isabella Sermon as Georgiana Darcy.
The series is executive produced by Alderton, Lyn, Laura Lankester, Will Johnston, and Louise Mutter. Lisa Osborne (Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light) serves as the producer.
Netflix executive Mona Qureshi praised the project as "the ultimate romantic comedy," adding that Alderton’s "fierce intelligence and enormous heart" make her ideally suited to revisit one of Britain’s most cherished novels.
Pride and Prejudice is being staged by London-based outfit Lookout Point. Production is currently underway in the UK.
The release date is yet to be confirmed.
