Apple TV+ has released a first look at Down Cemetery Road, a new UK-set thriller series based on the novel of the same name by CWA Diamond Dagger Award-winning author Mick Herron. The show is adapted from the author’s Zoë Boehm detective novels, distinct from his better-known Slough House series, which inspired Apple’s Slow Horses.

The eight-episode series stars Ruth Wilson (Luther, The Affair) and Emma Thompson (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande [+lee también:

, Sense and Sensibility) in the leading roles, both of whom also serve as executive producers. The plot follows suburbanite Sarah Tucker (played by Wilson) who becomes fixated on the disappearance of a young girl after a house explodes in her quiet Oxford neighbourhood. She teams up with seasoned private investigator Zoë Boehm (Thompson), and the pair uncover a wider conspiracy involving the dead — and the presumed-dead — in a chilling political landscape.

The adaptation is penned by Morwenna Banks (Slow Horses) and directed by Natalie Bailey. Previously, Bailey has helmed acclaimed TV comedies including Veep, The Thick of It and Avenue 5, as well as dramas like The Unusual Suspects and Bay of Fires. She also directed the Australian black comedy Audrey, released in 2024 and starring Jackie van Beek, Josephine Blazier, Hannah Diviney, and Aaron Fa’aoso.

Production is being handled by UK-based outfit 60Forty Films, with Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Tom Nash, Thompson, Banks, and Herron himself among the executive producers.

Down Cemetery Road is expected to premiere globally on Apple TV+ with a two-episode launch on 29 October, followed by weekly instalments until 10 December. The show joins Apple’s growing stable of UK spy thrillers, alongside Slow Horses, which will return for its fifth season in September and has already been renewed through season seven.
