On 1 September, Robert Guédiguian will begin shooting his 25th feature film, Une femme aujourd'hui, in Marseille. For the record, the filmmaker was selected for competition at Cannes in 2002, Berlin in 2005 and 2008, Venice in 2017 and 2019, and San Sebastian in 1998 (winning the Special Jury Prize) and 2004.

The cast of his new film features the filmmaker's usual troupe, including Marilou Aussilloux (notably seen in Guédiguian's latest film Stealing Angel [+lee también:

), Ariane Ascaride (Volpi Cup for Best Actress in Venice in 2019 and nominated for the César Award for Best Actress in 1998, 2003 and 2012, also recently in Stealing Angel), Jean-Pierre Darroussin (nominated for the César Award for Best Actor in 1999 and 2008, recently appearing in Vultures and also in Stealing Angel) and Gérard Meylan (a regular member of Guédiguian's troupe of actors). Also appearing are other regular members of the director's troupe, Lola Naymark (Lumière 2005 for Best Newcomer and nominated the same year for the César Award for Most Promising Actress) and Robinson Stévenin (nominated for the César Award for Most Promising Actor in 2000 and 2002, and soon to be seen in Chroniques d’un indic), as well as Patrick Bonnel.

Written by Robert Guédiguian, Serge Valletti (his sixth collaboration with the filmmaker) and Laurette Polmanss (nominated for a César Award in 2019 for Best Adaptation for An Impossible Love [+lee también:

), the screenplay centres on a young woman who believes herself to be emancipated, for whom life is easy and carefree until the day a violent assault reveals that her freedom was only a veneer...

Une femme aujourd’hui is produced by Marc Bordure and Robert Guédiguian for Agat Films,  coproduced by Arte France Cinéma and Italian company BiBi Films. Pre-boughts by Arte, Canal+ and Ciné+/OCS, the feature has the support of the South region. The eight weeks of shooting will take place in Marseille with Pierre Milon as director of photography, and the music will be composed by Michel Petrossian. International sales will be handled by Playtime and distribution in French cinemas by Diaphana.
