Copenhagen-based sales firm LevelK has secured a string of international deals for Pretty Young Love, the new Danish coming-of-age film by Mogens Hagedorn, set to premiere in the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival’s Just Film programme for kids and youth (7-23 November). The news was first reported by Variety.

The picture has been acquired by Splendid Film for Germany, Encripta for Latin America and Husky Films for South Korea, with further sales expected to follow.

A sequel to Hagedorn’s 2022 youth hit Pretty Young Thing, the new film returns to Rosenholm High School, where Selma is about to start her second year. On the final night of summer, she meets Johan, a charming but slightly older man who turns out to be her new music teacher.

Karoline Hamm (Loving Adults, Carmen Curlers) reprises her role as Selma, starring alongside Tue Lunding (A Copenhagen Love Story) as Johan and Flora Ofelia Hofmann Lindahl, the youngest-ever recipient of San Sebastián’s Best Lead Performance award (in 2021 for As In Heaven [+lee también:

), as Selma’s friend Jasmin.

“On the surface, it’s a story about forbidden love, but beneath that love story, it’s a tribute to the powerful volcano of resonance that our inner voice can be, if only we are quiet enough to hear it and brave enough to follow it,” said Hagedorn. “In creating the film, I tried to follow my own inner voice, so now that it has been selected for competition at the Tallinn festival and has touched hearts across borders and cultures, I feel both immensely proud and deeply humbled.”

Produced by Marcella Dichmann (Ehrengard: The Art of Seduction, Loving Adults) for SF Studios, Pretty Young Love was co-financed by TV2 Denmark and Netflix, which secured rights to show the film at a later stage before other broadcasters and platforms.
