Finnish broadcaster Nelonen Media’s Ruutu and Iceland’s Síminn have greenlit Hildur, a new Nordic crime-drama series based on the bestselling novels by Satu Rämö. The six-part show is being produced by Take Two Studios and Sagafilm, with Cineflix Rights handling worldwide distribution. The announcement and two first-look pictures were published on Drama Quarterly this week.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of Iceland’s Westfjords, the story follows Hildur, a detective returning to her hometown 25 years after the disappearance of her two sisters. When faced with a string of baffling new crimes, she joins forces with Finnish trainee Jakob and German recruit Florian to unearth long-buried secrets and track a calculating serial killer.

The cast is led by Ebba Katrín Finnsdóttir (Húsó, Vigdís), alongside Lauri Tilkanen (Deadwind), Rick Okon (Das Boot), Nína Dögg Filipusardóttir (Prisoners, The Valhalla Murders), Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir (Black Sands [+lee también:

Tinna Hrafnsdóttir (Reykjavik 112) directs, with Matti Laine (Bordertown) serving as head writer, joined by Margret Örnolfsdottir (Trapped). Executive producers include Sara Norberg and Eero Hietala for Take Two Studios, Kjartan Thor Thordarson and Tjörvi Thorsson for Sagafilm, and Timo Argillander, James Baker and Andrea Scarso on behalf of financiers IPR.VC.

Described as a “Nordic blue” series for its multi-lingual, cross-border approach, Hildur is set to premiere this winter in Iceland and Finland. The underlying trilogy has sold more than one million copies worldwide, with editions published in the UK (The Clues in the Fjord), Germany, Italy, Spain and across the Nordics.
