Austria’s FISAplus cash rebate has allocated more than €31 million to 26 international film and television projects, including titles directed by Tony Gilroy and Paul Greengrass, as well as the second season of the series The Day of the Jackal.

Paul Greengrass’s historical drama The Uprising, centred on the English Peasants’ Revolt, secured €1.12 million through the scheme. Produced by German-Austrian outfit Supernix, the film stars Andrew Garfield and Jamie Bell, and wrapped filming in Bavaria last December.

Tony Gilroy’s Behemoth!, a drama for Searchlight Pictures about a cellist, starring Pedro Pascal, Eva Victor and Olivia Wilde, received a €72,000 rebate.

Among the television projects, Carnival Film & Television’s production of the second season of The Day of the Jackal, toplined by Eddie Redmayne, was granted €956,000.

The largest amount allocated so far this year (€4.4 million) went to the second season of the revived cult police series Kommissar Rex (Inspector Rex), staged by MR Film for German broadcaster SAT.1 and Austria’s ORF.

Other beneficiaries include the ZDF drama series Downgrade, led by Ulrich Tukur, Moritz Bleibtreu and Anja Kling, which received over €2.9 million, as well as new episodes of the Alpine-set series Der Bergdoktor and Die Bergretter, with combined incentives exceeding €4.8 million.

Finally, the slate of backed projects is rounded off by the fiction features Brennendes Schweigen (produced by Mona Film, €730,000), Christkindlfalle (Geyrhalter Filmproduktion, €720,000), Steirerflucht (Allegro Film, €712,000), Steirerzwang (Allegro Film, €712,000), Herzklang 2 – Gegenwind (JewellLabs Pictures, €729,000), Letzter Tropfen – 7. Altausseekrimi (Juwel Film, €705,000), Proto-Typen (Aichholzer Film, €677,000), Der von oben (Rundfilm GmbH, €658,000), Dunkle Seelen (Gebhardt Productions, €688,000) and Halbweg (Lotus Film, €629,000); the TV series Meiberger (Mona Film, €606,000), Watzmann ermittelt – Season 9 (Moonlake Entertainment, €640,000), Die Maiwald (Epo Film, €1.894 million), Pflegeleicht – Season 2 (Prisma Film, €1.6 million) and Soko Linz – Season 6 (Gebhardt Productions, €2.11 million); as well as partial production contributions for two fiction features – The Rage (Supernix, €1.12 million) and 3 Minuten (aikon media & technology, €84,000) – alongside the documentary Sounds of Religion (Puskas & Puskas Stag, €61,000).

The FISAplus programme offers a 30% rebate on eligible Austrian production expenditure, alongside a 5% green filming bonus for environmentally sustainable productions and the possibility of gender-gap financing support of up to €25,000. Funding through the scheme is capped at €5 million per film and €7.5 million per television series, with minimum Austrian spending thresholds set at €150,000 for fiction projects and €80,000 for documentaries.

Last year, the largest individual FISAplus allocation was €4.39 million for W&B Television’s Netflix crime series Crooks, which was shot in Vienna and the surrounding areas.
