The RE-ACT initiative, established in 2015 by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, the Friuli Venezia-Giulia Audiovisual Fund and the Slovenian Film Centre, is entering a new phase of development with the expansion of its structure to include additional European regions as rotating guest partners. The initiative was officially presented at the Cannes Marché du Film in front of more than 200 international professionals. The expansion aims to reinforce cross-border collaboration, increase international co-production opportunities, and further support the professionalisation of producers and audiovisual companies across Europe.

Starting from 2026, selected European territories will be invited to join RE-ACT’s core activities on a rotating basis, gaining full access to all programme strands. For its first iteration under this revamped structure, RE-ACT is welcoming Montenegro as its inaugural guest member. According to the partners, the new phase marks a structural evolution of the initiative, repositioning RE-ACT as a broader European platform for collaboration, scaling its successful and unique regional model to a wider international framework.

The RE-ACT original concept will continue to be structured around three main pillars: professional training, international networking and a Co-Development Funding Scheme. The training component is supported through collaborations with leading European training institutions, including EAVE, Eurodoc, TorinoFilmLab, First Cut Lab, CEE Animation and Ex Oriente, among others, offering tailored workshops aimed at strengthening both creative and production capacities.

To date, the initiative has delivered 20 workshops, supporting over 100 professionals and more than 70 companies, while contributing to the development and completion of over 100 projects across fiction, documentary and animation. The Co-Development Fund has also supported 73 projects, with more than 20 titles already completed and released, which have gone on to premiere and receive recognition at major international festivals including Cannes, Berlin, Locarno, IFFR, Annecy and Toronto.

Key success stories include titles such as Fiume o Morte! by Igor Bezinović (IFFR, European Film Award for Best Documentary), Little Trouble Girls by Urška Djukić (Berlinale, European Film Award nominee), Cosmonauts by Leo Černic (Berlinale Shorts), Small Body by Laura Samani (Cannes, European Discovery – Prix FIPRESCI at the European Film Awards), Steakhouse by Špela Čadež (Annecy Best Short, European Film Award nominee), History of Love by Sonja Prosenc (Karlovy Vary, Slovenia’s Oscar candidate), Menocchio the Heretic by Alberto Fasulo (Locarno) and Half-Sister by Damjan Kozole (Karlovy Vary), among others.

Fostering collaboration remains a cornerstone of the initiative, with RE-ACT delegations regularly participating in key industry events, such as the Sarajevo, Pula, Portorož and Zagreb Film Festivals, as well as international markets including When East Meets West, the Cannes Marché du Film and the upcoming Montenegro Film Rendezvous.
