Shot in July in the Atlantic Pyrenees, Kahina Le Querrec’s first feature, La Faille, is now in post-production. Selected for La Fémis’ screenplay workshop and praised for her short films L’heure bleue and Fireworks, the director also co-wrote the film A Place to Heal with Cédric Kahn, which is set to be unveiled in competition next week in Venice.
The cast of La Faille is led by youngster Eva Yelmani (revealed via Tell Her That I Love Her and On the Edge) and Sara Forestier (awarded the Best Actress César in 2011 for The Names of Love, nominated in 2014 for Suzanne, as well as in the Best Supporting Role category in 2016 and 2020 thanks to Standing Tall and Oh Mercy! , and recently at her best in Three Friends).
They’re joined by Cédric Kahn (acclaimed in films such as After Love and Cold War, and soon to be seen in Jupiter and Avant la tempête), Jehnny Beth (nominated for the 2019 Best Newcomer César via An Impossible Love, also seen in Paris, 13th District and Anatomy of a Fall), Jean-Baptiste Durand (Mercy, Wild Foxes) and Ferdinand Nicquet-Rioux (Un monde violent, Molière, Cyrano and the Young King).
Written by the director in league with Maïté Sonnet, the story follows Maria who has just turned 18 and who now needs to leave the children’s home in which she’s lived for several years. She only has one thing in mind: to reunite with the mother she hasn’t seen since she was a child. Alone for the very first time, she sets out to meet her… For the record, this project enjoyed support from both the Angers and the Grand Nord workshops.
La Faille is being produced by Émilie Tardif on behalf of Améthyste Films, in co-production with Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Cinéma. Likewise backed by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and the SOFICA company Indéfilms, the feature film claimed victory in the 2025 Mon Film dans un Camion competition (organised by Transpa and La Maison du Film). Cinematography comes courtesy of Paloma Pineda. The movie’s release in French cinemas will be steered by UFO Distribution with world sales falling to Urban Sales.
