Cineuropa will organise a film-criticism workshop within the Future Campus of the 67th Festival dei Popoli, which will take place in Florence from 31 October-8 November. The initiative forms part of Another Story, the pan-European project supported by the Creative Europe – MEDIA programme, and dedicated to rediscovering and reassessing documentary films made by women. Future Campus is Festival dei Popoli’s training, exchange and networking platform for young professionals under 35. Its 2026 edition will bring together participants from different professional backgrounds, Italian universities and film schools from Italy and across Europe through a programme encompassing labs, master classes, round-table discussions, workshops and screenings.

The workshop organised by Cineuropa will focus on film criticism and journalism, combining practical writing with discussion and mentoring. It continues the series of Another Story Critics’ Labs launched earlier this year at Doxumentale in Berlin. The initiative draws on Cineuropa’s experience in training emerging film journalists through programmes such as GoCritic!, with an emphasis on helping participants develop their critical approach while gaining direct experience of the festival environment.

In keeping with the broader aims of Another Story, particular attention will be devoted to films by women directors, and to questions surrounding authorship, representation, visibility and the ways in which film history is constructed. The project seeks to bring renewed attention to documentary works by women from the 20th and 21st centuries that have often remained outside dominant histories of cinema, combining screenings with educational activities, public discussions and training initiatives.

Another Story is a two-year collaboration involving HER Docs Foundation in Poland, Festival dei Popoli in Italy, The Good Media Network/Doxumentale in Germany, the Balkan Documentary Center/Sofia DocuMental in Bulgaria and Cineuropa in Belgium.

The training will be led by film critic Veronica Orciari, who studied Filmmaking at the MetFilm School in London and Film Criticism at the Sentieri Selvaggi school in Rome. She writes for Cineuropa, and she is an editor, contributor and translator for the English-language edition of Cinecittà News. She also serves on the programming team for the Torino Film Festival.
