Nancy Camaldo’s upcoming mystery-horror feature Wolf completed shooting in South Tyrol, Italy, in May 2026. Filming took place at several locations across the region, and the movie is now in post-production. Camaldo is a German-speaking filmmaker of Italian origin. She studied at the University of Television and Film Munich, graduating in 2021 with her debut feature, Windstill. She has also directed several short films and music videos.
Wolf is being produced by Munich-based company Elfenholz Film, run by Natalie Hölzel and Sandra Hölzel, in co-production with Albolina Film, based in Bolzano, South Tyrol. The German producers describe the region as an attractive filming location: “The region is compact, and we have found great local expertise and dedication. The landscape offers impressive variety: there are mountains, forests and lakes.” They also praise the professionalism of the local crews: “They are fantastic partners and provide an outstanding film set. They help us with everything – it’s been one of the best experiences we’ve ever had.”
The official synopsis goes as follows: a mountain village is shaken when a wolf kills a rare white deer from Tilda’s wildlife park. Determined to protect her late mother’s legacy, Tilda hunts down and illegally kills the wolf, while Mayor Pina advocates for peaceful coexistence. A mysterious man soon appears and draws Tilda in, but she begins to experience unsettling symptoms, including dizziness, a sense of alienation and physical changes. Nature starts invading her home. When a second wolf threatens the family of Tilda’s brother Eddi, he accidentally kills her donkey during a chaotic hunt, fracturing their relationship. Pina files poaching charges, putting the future of the wildlife park at risk. As Tilda’s condition worsens, a positive pregnancy test turns out to be false, and she kills her baby goat in a frenzy. Eddi becomes obsessed with the wolf, while Tilda realises she is transforming into the very animal she despises. At the village festival, her transformation complete, she is cast out. Only the forest remains, where the wolf-like stranger awaits her. Can Tilda embrace her place in nature?
Camaldo wrote and directed the film, developing a distinctive language for the story. “The language is based on the South Tyrolean dialect, but must be understandable for the film’s audience,” she explains. The cast includes German thesp Mercedes Müller (Equinox), Austrian actors Felix Krasser and Victoria Trauttmansdorff (Women as Lovers), and South Tyrolean actor Felix Grünbacher, who has Down syndrome. His participation constitutes one aspect of the production’s particular focus on inclusion.
Wolf is a German-Italian co-production supported by ZDF – Das kleine Fernsehspiel, German public broadcaster ZDF’s strand for innovative filmmaking and emerging talent. Funding comes from Filmförderungsanstalt (FFA), FilmFernsehFonds Bayern (FFF Bayern) and IDM Südtirol. No distributor has been announced yet. The film is currently expected to be out in 2027, although no specific release date has been confirmed.
