Italia no ha faltado a la cita y para la edición de Shooting Stars de este año propone a Libero De Rienzo. El chico que probaba espaguetis en un anuncio de Barilla ha crecido y, tras sus comienzos en teatro en 1996, debutó en el cine en una película dirigida por el cómico Claudio Bisio, Asini. Después de trabajar con la directora francesa Catherine Breillat en A ma sœur!, y de participar en algunas series de televisión, el éxito le llegó con Santa Maradona, de Marco Ponti junto a Stefano Accorsi –la Shooting Star italiana del año pasado-, en un papel que le valió en 2002 el premio David de Donatello como mejor actor no protagonista del año.

"Every time you are in front of a camera it is always a challenge. For me it is like that: I'm always scared of it. Every time, the last time is like the first time. I think this is the funny,... the worst and the best of this work... the scary thing... I'm always scared.
About European directors... yes, I would like to work with Noé or Ken Loach, but it is the script which most attracts me first. And I think there are lots of interesting European scripts. I don't feel Italian, I don't feel European... I'm just myself. I was born from my mother, that's it! 'Italian saying/speech' - it means: 'If something bad happens to you,. go ahead'".
