BLUEBIRD

by Mijke de Jong

synopsis

13-year old Merel is a responsible, successful student who lives with her parents and seriously handicapped younger brother. But she’s not the happy girl you’d expect of someone her age. Deep down she harbours a secret. For no reason whatsoever, no matter where she goes, she’s hounded by a bunch of classmates. They bully her. As her situation worsens, Merel withdraws from her family. The bullying hardens her and gives her a push in the wrong direction. To overcome the madness, Merel will have to mature and decide what kind of girl she wants to be in the future.
