HUNKY DORY

by Marc Evans

synopsis

It is the summer of 1976, the hottest summer in living memory, and keen drama teacher Vivienne fights sweltering heat and general teenage apathy to put on a school musical of her version of Shakespeare's 'The Tempest'. To get the kids engaged, she weaves the play around their favourite pop songs, using the hits of the day by artists as diverse as David Bowie, Lou Reed, The Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel, Dusty Springfield and Electric Light Orchestra.
