LA MIA OMBRA È TUA

by Eugenio Cappuccio

synopsis

This is a love story – one that began forty years ago and has yet to end. And it is also the story of a journey across Italy aboard an old off-road vehicle with neither doors nor windshield, embarked upon by Emiliano De Vito, a 23-year-old who has just graduated from university with top grades in Ancient Literatures, along with Vittorio Vezzosi, who authored a single book published years earlier. This book’s worldwide success convinced Vezzosi to hole up in a farmhouse above Florence and stay hidden from view except by Mamadou, his Ghanaian friend/jack of all trades, who takes care of him. Our two main characters go quarrelling their way towards Milan – their generations are too distant from one another – and to the 1980s-1990s market/fair. Here, Vittorio has agreed to give a speech, thus breaking a quarter-century of silence under the scrutiny and attention of all of Italy and social media. Awaiting them in Milan is Milena, the author’s great love and the only reason why the two have undertaken the journey, and an enormous crowd eager to hear the “prophesy” of Vezzosi, “the only resource and the last hope” of this country of ours gripped by and lost in the memory of itself.
