The Roma Lazio Film Commission has announced the creation of a new €10 million fund aimed at attracting new international film, TV, documentary and animated productions set to shoot in the Lazio region. The news comes after Sicily’s recent announcement that it would be implementing a similar initiative, worth €10.8 million (see the news).

Besides incentivising the growth of the sector, the measure aims to promote the region’s tourism. A committee will evaluate the applications submitted, based on a set of eligibility criteria.

“At Roma Lazio Film Commission, we constantly work towards developing international partnerships, promoting the resources of the region, and also assisting both national and international productions. We have always valued and sought to promote the osmosis taking place between the region and other international areas through this process. It would be unwise to act differently in a global era,” stated Cristina Priarone, director general of the Roma Lazio Film Commission and head of Italian Film Commissions.

The funding commitment has been confirmed until 2027, and a total of €70 million will be invested. This year, the €10 million allocation will be split into two funding slates.

Since 2013, the Lazio region has invested over €150 million in backing the film and audiovisual sector. Over the last six years, the Roma Lazio Film Commission has awarded €60 million to 154 productions, involving 220 foreign production outfits from more than 30 countries.
