The Eastern Denmark Film Fund has been launched. It’s a new, government-backed initiative established to support and attract Danish and international film and TV productions made in Eastern Denmark. The fund has been established in collaboration with the Danish Film Institute and partner municipalities, with the aim of strengthening the region’s position as an internationally competitive production hub.

“It’s an amazing opportunity to be a part of building the Eastern Denmark Film Fund. It means that we now have three regional funding bodies, which together cover all of Denmark,” he told Cineuropa. “It’s much-needed, since there’s high demand to shoot film and TV series in this part of the country, and I hope we can attract some big signature projects. With the newly established tax incentive that will soon be in place, producers will have some great funding schemes in Denmark.”
The fund is open to both Danish and international productions, with a strong focus on co-productions and incoming projects. The first application round is expected ahead of the summer, with the goal of “supporting high-quality productions that generate creative, cultural and economic impact”. The final organisational structure will be ready in the autumn.
The fund, it was stated, “serves as a strong supplement to FilmFyn and the West Danish Film Fund, ensuring a stronger geographical balance in Danish film production”. It’s established under Copenhagen Capacity, attracting international companies to Eastern Denmark and talent to the Danish industry.
Asbjørn Overgaard, CEO of Copenhagen Capacity, said: “The establishment of the Eastern Denmark Film Fund is an important step in making Eastern Denmark more visible and competitive as a production destination. With the support of the Danish Film Institute, we gain a strong foundation for attracting more film and TV productions, creating local jobs and strengthening the creative sector in the region.”
The Eastern Denmark Film Fund boasts municipal funding of DKK 12.8 million (approximately €1.7 million) from the municipalities of Copenhagen, Vordingborg and Guldborgsund. This has resulted in government support from the Danish Film Institute of DKK 27.7 million (€3.7 million), bringing the total funding pool to DKK 40.5 million (€5.5 million) for film and TV productions in Eastern Denmark.
