Evia Film Project revient pour une deuxième édition plus vaste et plus verte

Cet article est disponible en anglais.

The Evia Film Project is the green initiative launched by the Thessaloniki International Film Festival to provide aid to the Northern Evia region, which suffered from devastating wildfires in 2021. The project's first edition drew over 350 industry professionals who took part in sustainability-focused activities and green cinema practices (see the news).

This year, the second edition of the Evia Film Project will feature a range of activities including film screenings, educational events, open discussions and music performances, all designed to promote awareness and foster a positive, summertime atmosphere. Taking place from 20-24 June in Edipsos, Limni and Agia Anna, the event will be supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sports and will offer free admission to all events.

The Evia Film Project, which is steadily becoming the third pillar of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, will this year feature a diverse range of events and activities aimed at promoting environmentally orientated films, fostering dialogue among film professionals and offering unique experiences to the audience. At the Apollon and Elymnion open-air movie theatres, eco-orientated films will be screened, taking in classics and recent hits, fiction films and documentaries, all of which raise awareness about the environment and humanity's relationship with it. In addition, the most up-to-date virtual-reality technologies will be showcased within the Immersive: All Around Cinema section.

The Evia Film Project will also host a top-tier, international meeting focused on the development of documentaries, with a series of open-to-the-public master classes as part of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival’s Agora. The CIRCLE Women Doc Accelerator, a specialised workshop for the development of documentaries, aimed at female and feminine producers and directors, will also be held.

Furthermore, the gathering will offer a fascinating film-location tour, meet-ups and networking events for film professionals, plus an intensive workshop for university students. Innovative educational meetings and music nights full of surprises will also be hosted by the festival, with the latter including a mystery concert and an outside-the-box music event to celebrate European Music Day.

The Evia Film Project is the festival's newest addition to its two existing pillars of activities, the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, held in November, and the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, held in March. The main objective of the project is to establish Northern Evia as a global centre for environmentally aware cinema.

The Evia Film Project is carried out thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, in collaboration with the Region of Central Greece, the Greek Film Centre, the Municipality of Istiea-Edipsos and the Municipality of Mantoudi-Limni-Agia Anna. The Thessaloniki Film Festival is teaming up with all institutions and bodies based in Evia, and the Digital Arts and Cinema Department of the National and Kapodistrian University, based in Psachna.
