US tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams featured in Maiken Baird and Michelle Major’s documentary Venus & Serena has just been licenced by K5 International to UK distributor Kaleidoscope. US rights had previously been sold to Magnolia Pictures.

The film follows the Williams sisters through a full year of their lives as they battle injury, the media and those around them to maintain their position as tennis’ most successful women tennis players in history. The film executive produced by Oscar–winning filmmaker Alex Gibney premiered at the last Toronto Film Festival. Kaleidoscope’s Spencer Pollard said: “Ever since we first saw the film in Toronto we've wanted to be part of the film's UK release. It's a great sporting documentary, with excellent insight into one of the most engaging and interesting sporting families that ever lived. With it perfectly timed for this year's Wimbledon we think the film will be a smash!”

K5 International’s other strong documentary Dancing in Jaffa by Hilla Medalia - recently shown in Tribeca - was picked up before Cannes by French distributor Pretty Pictures, and Cutie and the Boxer.

The German co-financing and sales company also announced in Cannes a multiple sale on Superfast!, a humorous take on the Fast and Furious franchise by directing duo Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, produced by Scary Movie’s Peter Safran. Territories sold include Russia (Volga), Germany (Wild Bunch), Italy (Lucky Red), Middle East (Falcon) and Latin America (Sun).
