Borgman l'emporte au Festival du Film Européen de Palic

The 20th European Film Festival Palić, which ran July 13-19, ended with Alex van Warmerdam’s Cannes competition entry Borgman  winning the main award, Golden Tower for best film.

Romania’s Tudor Giurgiu received the best director award for Of Snails and Men, while a special mention went to Polish actor Andrzej Chyra for his role in Malgorzata Szumowska’s In the Name of…, winner of Berlinale’s Teddy Award for feature film.

The newly established Seyfi Teoman Award, named after the Turkish film-maker who passed away last year, for the most daring and the bravest first or second film, was given to the Finish film Open Up to Me by Simo Halinen.

In the section Parallels and Encounters, dedicated to Eastern European film, the international critics jury awarded Turkish director Ugur Yücel’s Berlinale Panorama title Cold. A special mention went to Alexei Balabanov’s Me Too.

The festival was also host to the informal meeting A Sunday in the Country, where ten young film-makers had the chance to meet and exchange opinions and experiences with  several prolific members of the European Film Academy, including the EFA Director Marion Döring, Berlinale’s pre-selector for Eastern Europe and main programmer of the Palić festival Nikolaj Nikitin, Secretary-Generalof Cannes Directors' Fortnight Christophe Leparc, as well as famous Irish director Jim Sheridan
