Shrouded in the utmost secrecy, filming took place last autumn on the Greek island of Trikeri for the 18th movie by Fernando Trueba, titled Haunted Heart and destined to become one of the standout titles in Spain this year. That’s because, in addition, it boasts Oscar-nominated actor Matt Dillon among its cast (performing once again in a European feature after doing so in Land of Dreams [+lire aussi :

The screenplay for Haunted Heart (which is now in post-production), penned by the director himself together with Rylend Grant, tells of how Alex (played by Aida Folch) is a Spanish woman starting a new job as a waitress in a restaurant on an island in the middle of nowhere. Despite quickly winning the affections of Brazilian man Enrico (played by Juan Pablo Urrego), Alex falls in love with Max, the establishment’s American manager (Matt Dillon). As their love blossoms, some disturbing clues about Max’s dark and mysterious past begin to come to light.

“The novels of Patricia Highsmith and the films of Alfred Hitchcock have been my main sources of inspiration for this film,” remarked the filmmaker, who won the Oscar for Best Foreign-language Film in 1992 for Belle epoque and who is preparing the animated flick They Shot the Piano Player [+lire aussi :

Haunted Heart is being produced by Caracol TV (Colombia), Atlantika Films and Fernando Trueba PC, and it boasts the involvement of RTVE, support from the Community of Madrid and funding from the ICAA. Bteam Pictures will be in charge of distributing it in Spain later this year, after it has taken part in one of the major festivals (perhaps Cannes, San Sebastián or Venice).
