The Venice Biennale has showcased the 12 projects that touched down in Venice from 6 to 15 October 2018 to participate in the first workshop included in the 2018/2019 Biennale College - Cinema – the 7th edition of the Venice Biennale initiative that promotes new talent in film by offering them the possibility to make micro-budget feature films.

Of the 12 projects selected – out of 190 received this year – nine come from the Biennale College - Cinema International call for tender, and three come from the Biennale College Cinema - Italy selection.

Among these 12 projects from Bolivia, Chile, South Korea, France, Japan, Great Britain, Israel, Italy, Poland, United States, South Africa, Turkey and Hungary only three teams will be invited to two further workshops – also to be held in Venice from 3 to 6 December 2018 and from 11 to 15 January 2019 – before starting production on three features (first or second films), one of which will be Italian. The projects will receive €150,000 in funding and will be presented at the 76th edition of Venice Film Festival 2019. The nine unselected projects will also be helped and supported.

Set up by the Venice Biennale, Biennale College – Cinema has received financial support from the Ministry for Culture and Heritage - Directorate General for Cinema. The initiative, run by Alberto Barbera and the Head of Programme, Savina Neirotti, has also received funding from Eurimages, the European Council’s cultural fund, which covers the travel, accommodation and training costs of one female director (Eurimages Residency Grant). Kasia Plazinska (False Positive, Poland) has been chosen for this year’s edition.
