MIDPOINT TV Launch 2019 has announced its selection of nine projects and two development-executive participants who will go through a nine-month development course, an idea-to-market programme for emerging TV and web series creators that takes these projects through an intensive scriptwriting process and on to meet the international market and decision-makers.
The first workshop takes place from 10-17 November in Banska Stiavnica, Slovakia. The second workshop will be held during the Finale Plzen Film Festival in the Czech Republic in April 2019, and the final one will take the participants to the Sarajevo Film Festival's CineLink in August 2019.
In addition to six TV series projects from Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary and Slovakia, and two development-executive participants from Slovakia and Lithuania, for the first time MIDPOINT TV Launch will include three web series, from Slovenia, Hungary and Slovakia. The training and development programme has also revealed its six tutors. As announced earlier this year, Gabor Krigler (creative executive, HBO Europe) was appointed as the new head of studies at MIDPOINT TV Launch. Together with experienced American executive producer and consultant Maggie Murphy, Krigler will be leading two groups of participating TV series projects.
The web series projects will be led by Sullivan Le Postec, an acclaimed French digital series creator (Les Engagés), while the development-executive participants will be mentored by Steve Matthews, VP executive producer of Drama Development at HBO Europe.
Guest experts at the first workshop will be Luke Eve, creator of the critically acclaimed Australian online series Low Life, and Ben Harris, who heads up the partner training programme Serial Eyes.
“Yet again, the selection for the 2019 edition of TV Launch proves that there is in fact a huge amount of captivating stories with a very high level of quality and originality, and tremendous diversity within the Central and Eastern European territory, when it comes to original drama," says TV Launch coordinator Katarina Tomkova. "I'm very happy to be able to offer our platform to professionals who are established in the feature-film industry, and are now looking to expand their skills and knowledge in the television business. It's also very exciting to be welcoming the first-ever group of web series to the programme, as well as the development-executive participants, who will be trained to assess scripts and work with the writers, providing them with support when it comes to the storytelling and editing process.”
