The story of Dream Horse, adapted for the big screen by Neil McKay, is based on real events and revolves around Jan Vokes (Toni Collette), a barmaid who starts a racing syndicate in her forgotten Welsh village and attempts to breed a champion racehorse. The woman recruits her initially reluctant husband Brian and a local accountant, called Howard Davies (Damian Lewis), to help her bring together the members of the syndicate to breed a foal, which they name Dream Alliance. The story was also the source of inspiration for a documentary starring the real-life characters, entitled Dark Horse [+lire aussi :

Speaking about the subject of his film, Lyn said: “I grew up in the Welsh valleys, where everyone knows this story – it’s a local legend. The moment I read Neil’s brilliant script, I knew I had to direct this funny and moving film. Casting Toni Collette as Jan Vokes, our extraordinary heroine, and Damian Lewis as Howard Davies, her intriguingly conflicted accomplice, is my own dream come true.” Moreover, producer Katherine Butler explained why the Welsh director was the best artistic choice for this movie: “Euros Lyn’s immediate and passionate response to the script completely convinced us that he was born to direct this film. With the support of all of our financiers, the local Welsh cast and crew, and the horse-racing community, we are off to the races.”
Dream Horse is a British production being staged by Katherine Butler for RAW, Peter Touche for Ingenious Media and Ollie Madden for Film4. Ffilm Cymru Wales, the development agency for Welsh film, is also backing the project, and Pauline Burt will serve as an executive producer on behalf of the organisation.
