It came as no surprise to anyone when Roma, a co-production between Mexico and the USA (Netflix), directed by Alfonso Cuarón, emerged victorious yesterday, roundly trouncing its rivals at the sixth edition of the Platino Awards, co-organised by EGEDA and FIPCA (the Ibero-American Federation of Film and Audiovisual Producers), and supported by the Latin American Film Academies and Institutes, Latin Artis and the AISGE Foundation. It went home with five trophies: Best Ibero-American Fiction Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Sound. This moving documentary that speaks out against the still-unsolved crimes of the Franco period previously took home the Goya from the most recent edition of the Spanish Film Academy’s awards ceremony. At a ceremony presented by filmmaker Santiago Segura and actress Cecilia Suárez, which was held in Xcaret, a tropical park and resort in Yucatán, Mexico, tribute was paid – through the presentation of the Honorary Platino – to Andalusian singer and actor Raphael (who sent himself up in Álex de la Iglesia’s My Big Night [+lire aussi :
