. The prolific French auteur and maker of short films has delivered an experimental journey to the outer limits of imposed gender roles, set in an unspecified realm of wonders. Starring the director’s muse and indie icon Elina Löwensohn, The Wild Boys narrates the tale of five adolescent boys – played by actresses Pauline LorillardVimala PonsDiane RouxelAnael Snoek and Mathilde Warnier – who commit a savage crime. . The Spanish-Ethiopian-Finnish co-production revolves around the unique character of Birdy (Daniel Tadesse), a figurine-sized superhero, as he embarks on an epic, surreal journey that will take him across the post-apocalyptic Ethiopian landscape in search of a way to get on a hovering spacecraft that, for years, has become a landmark in the skies.

One week later, UK viewers will be able to watch Suffering of Ninko by Japanese director Norihiro Niwatsukino, an erotic fantasy film about a devout and unusually handsome young Buddhist monk in Edo-period Japan, who is faced with a serious predicament: wherever he goes, women and some men find him sexually irresistible and follow him around like the Pied Piper’s rats. Finally, on 19 December, ten animated shorts by Latvian director Signe Baumane (Rocks in My Pockets [+lire aussi :

) will be available worldwide.

Giving a glimpse of its 2020 releases, Spamflix has confirmed that six movies by Denis Côté will be available on the platform. The slate dedicated to the Quebecois auteur will begin with Drifting States, available from 26 December virtually worldwide. The film revolves around Christian, who, after committing a crime of compassion, flees from the law and starts his life anew in a small community 1,500 km north of Montreal. His story drifts along between fiction and reality.

Spamflix is co-financed by the Lisboa 2020 programme of the ERDF European Fund.
