On Saturday 7 March, the Punto de Vista – Navarre International Documentary Film Festival capped off six days chock full of non-fiction film and documentary-related events, having attracted huge numbers of filmmakers and audiences. The event dedicated its closing gala to unveiling the identities of the winners, and even offered a performance entitled Para estar aquí y allá al mismo tiempo (lit. “To Be Here and There at the Same Time”), staged by Isaki Lacuesta and Amanda Villavieja. Standing out among the award winners was a somewhat surprised Alberto Gracia, whose project Tengan cuidado ahí fuera (lit. “Be Careful Out There”) came out on top. He has thus secured the support of the festival, which will help him to make the movie over the course of the next 12 months. The project will be filmed in the Navarre region and will be shown at next year’s edition of the gathering. The decision was made by the jury, made up of Dario Oliveira, Nathalie Trafford and Cristina Cámara Bello.

director’s new opus alludes to a sentence uttered at the beginning of every episode of the 1980s TV series Hill Street Blues by one of its uniformed protagonists. That ground-breaking programme, according to the explanation provided by Gracia during his pitch on Saturday morning, was the first TV series to shine the spotlight on a group of characters and opened up a whole new audiovisual narrative. From that starting point, and with a political, anthropological and critical approach, the filmmaker will analyse the loss of role models for youths in modern-day Navarre, using some illustrative examples: two youngsters driving recklessly on the motorways surrounding Pamplona, imitating Vin Diesel in The Fast and the Furious, and another individual from the same place who destroys cars with nothing but kicks and punches, as pioneered by a famous video-game character (of course, videos of this feat have been posted online by its protagonist, and the aforementioned drivers have done likewise). Speed, disaster and narcissism will therefore constitute the cornerstones of the film, but “I will adopt a poetic position”, stated Gracia.

As for the festival’s official section, the jury comprising Haden Guest, Simon Field and Hila Peleg decided to split the Punto de Vista Grand Prize for Best Film (endowed with €10,000) between Un film dramatique [+lire aussi :
