IndieLisboa, one of the first Portuguese festivals to postpone its 2020 edition, is now just around the corner. Though the festival has moved to the end of August (instead of the end of April), most of this year’s format will be quite similar to previous years. With an extensive programme (of competitive and non-competitive sections), the festival will open with Monia Chokri’s A Brother’s Love in Cinema São Jorge and will close with Felipe Bragança’s A Yellow Animal [+lire aussi :

Two portuguese titles are part of the International Short Film Competition: Luís Soares’ Poise and The Lamb of God, directed by David Pinheiro Vicente and produced by Gabriel Abrantes. Also highlighting Portuguese productions, the Brand New Competition will showcase 15 films from young filmmakers.

The Silvestre section, which includes works by Sergei Loznitsa, Radu Jude, Caetano Gotardo and Marco Dutra, will feature a Focus dedicated to the work of Franco-senegalese director Mati Diop.

This year, the festival will have two Retrospectives: one dedicated to the celebration of Berlinale Forum’s 50th anniversary, and another dedicated to the work of senegalese director Ousmane Sembène (co-programmed with Cinemateca Portuguesa).

Besides film screenings, the festival will once again host Lisbon Talks, dedicated this year to conversations about actors and acting in the Portuguese context of the audiovisual sector, as well as to the festival’s retrospectives.

The Industry events will be hosted online for the first time, from 31 August to 2 September. These events include Lisbon Screenings, an activity organised by Portugal Film – Portuguese Film Agency that will present a selection of new portuguese works to international professionals; the Portuguese Film Fund, a pitching event that aims to support the completion of Portuguese films through the awarding of prizes for post-production and creation of original music (9 projects have been selected for this year’s edition); and Cine-Cerca, the first edition of a scriptwriting residency for Lusophone and Francophone filmmakers, with mentorship by Fabianny Deschamps and João Pedro Rodrigues.

IndieLisboa will take place in Cinema São Jorge, Culturgest, Cinemateca Portuguesa, Cinema Ideal and Capitólio, from 25 August to 5 September. Click here to check out the festival's full programme.
