German actor and filmmaker Til Schweiger, who is best known to international audiences for playing Sergeant Hugo Stiglitz in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds [+lire aussi :

fiche film], Schweiger has once again teamed up with co-writer Lo Malinke in order to pen the screenplay of his latest film. The tragicomedy will centre on 17-year-old Paul, who is diagnosed as bipolar after attempting suicide. Sent to a psychiatric centre by his father, he encounters many young people who have issues similar to his. Among them is Toni, with whom he spends a wonderful day. Yet the morning after the happiest day of his life, Paul finds out that mental illness has no regard for joy.
The cast of Schweiger’s new directorial effort will bring together Emilio Sakraya, Til Schweiger himself, Tijan Marei, Bettina Lamprecht, Greta Kasalo, Skandar Amini, Otto Emil Koch, Emily Cox, Sebastian Schneider, Maya Lauterbach, Emma Schweiger, Herbert Knaup and Steffen Wink.
Produced by Germany’s Barefoot Films and Warner Bros Film Productions Germany in co-production with Perathon Film und Fernseh and Erfttal Film- und Fernsehproduktion, Schweiger’s new film project has also received substantial financial backing from several German film-funding bodies: FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, and the German Federal Film Board (FFA) and Deutscher Filmförderfonds (DFFF).
Filming took place between 1 September and 2 November 2020, predominantly on location in North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria. The German release will be handled by Warner Bros Entertainment Germany and is scheduled for 2021.
