, the feature debut by director Nemanja Ćeranić, has been picked up for international sales by Berlin-based company Media Move.

The film tells the story of a middle-aged, old-school loan shark, Mundir (Dušan Petković). Criminal charges have piled up on this former boxer suffering from diabetes, so he decides to go legit by opening a martial-arts studio and a gym. After collecting the remaining debts on the last day on his old job, the stress causes a diabetic shock, and he makes a wrong move that could cost him dearly.

"I was instantly drawn to the film by its excellent production values, strong storyline set locally but with universal appeal, and a main character who symbolised the clash of cultures and values of the old and the new world," says Media Move's Justyna Koronkiewicz. "Even though the old often carries negative connotations like a macho attitude and violence, it’s not all bad, and shouldn’t be simplified and 'cancelled'.

"The film matches our profile perfectly, too – it’s been turning more and more towards genre, and now is filled with high-class foreign-language content, mostly war dramas, crime-thrillers and elevated horrors."

Media Move has also recently picked up the Serbian crime series Tycoon, as well as the Polish crime-drama Code: Challenge, the Indian horror Kriya and the Estonian horror-comedy Kratt.

Penned by Strahinja Madžarević, Loan Shark was entirely shot in Ćeranić's home town of Indjija, which lent crucial financial and logistical support to the independent production, as it has not received any financing from the state.

Loan Shark was produced by Ćeranić's brother, Aljoša Ćeranić, through his company Tracktor Film, and in addition to Petković, it stars Strahinja Blažić, Branko Vidaković, Milica Grujičić, Zlatan Vidović, Ivan Đorđević Džudi, Mladen Andrejević, Aleksandar Đurica and Tatjana Venčelovski.
