The touching film about the immigrant experience, represented internationally by Loco Films, about a former wrestler, played by Levan Tediashvili, who travels to New York’s Brighton Beach area to help his troubled son, won Best International Feature Film, while its star, Tediashvili, pocketed Best Actor in an International Narrative Feature Film. Screenwriter Boris Frumin, who also penned Koguashvili’s two previous narrative films, won Best Screenplay. The jury members were Lesli Klainberg, Melissa Leo, Delroy Lindo, Alexander Payne and Peter Scarlet.

Besides these three films, it was a poor night for European titles at the festival, as they failed to come out on top in any other category that the continent’s films qualified to compete in, including any of the documentary prizes.
