Le TFL et la Commission du film du Trentin lancent Green Film Lab

Cet article est disponible en anglais.

It is possible to produce films sustainably, and a new training programme devised by TorinoFilmLab and the Trentino Film Commission - with the aim of promoting a more sustainable approach within the audiovisual industry - is set to prove this fact to audiovisual professionals. By means of regional European funds, the Italian National Film Museum and Green Film Laboratory (which is the name of the Trentino Film Commission’s project, initiated in 2017 with the objective of reducing the environmental impact of audiovisual productions) will organise a series of workshops dedicated to sustainability and aimed at producers, department heads and green managers from all over Europe, each lasting three days and held in different European regions and cities throughout the year.

“Our aim with this initiative is to heighten awareness of environmental issues and to encourage a change in mentality and not just changes in habits within the film sector”, the director of Italy’s National Film Museum Domenico De Gaetano stated. While working on actual film projects, participants will learn how to implement all the latest procedures with regards to saving energy, transport, accommodation, food, set design, waste management and recycling, and communications. “Producing [films] in a more environmentally respectful manner is becoming increasingly necessary to access European funds”, affirmed TorinoFilmLab’s Managing Director Mercedes Fernandez.

The Green Film Lab will provide training based on the Green Film Rating System and its two key features: its sustainability plan and the certification process for audiovisual projects in all European nations. “By way of the Green Film Lab”, the director of the Trentino Film Commission Luca Ferrario explained, “we want to educate producers and provide them with an alternative path, which will allow them to work in a sustainable and uniform fashion across the many different European regions, whilst also ensuring the various institutions reward them for their commitment".

The first Green Film Lab workshop will be held in Trento, running 29 April to 1 May 2022. Candidates can apply up until C.O.B. on 25 March 2022 (click here for more information). Another two workshops are set to follow, whose calls are due to open in the coming months: the second workshop will take place between 29 and 31 July in Palma de Majorca, while the third will unfold between 14 and 16 October in Sitges, also in Spain.

Italian producer and TorinoFilmLab alumnus Giovanni Pompili is Head of Studies for this programme, and he’ll be working alongside tutors Sophie Cornet (Belgium), who’s been managing ecological transition projects in the cultural sphere since 2010, Louise Marie Smith (UK), who’s the founder and managing director of Neptune Environmental Solutions, and Morgane Baudin (France), who’s a producer and a sustainability trainer and consultant for the film and TV world.
