The 13th edition of the Iris Awards, organised by the Hellenic Film Academy, has wrapped, and Yorgos Goussis’ debut feature, Magnetic Fields [+lire aussi :

, received the Best Film Award plus four more gongs from among the seven it had been nominated for, during last night’s ceremony. Produced by Yorgos Goussis, Yorgos Karnavas and Konstantinos Kontovrakis, the film observes the magnetic attraction between two eccentric strangers, as they cross paths on a mountainous Greek island.

Goussis, who is also a well-known comic-book artist, received the Awards for Best First-time Director and Best Screenplay, which he co-wrote with the two lead actors in Magnetic Fields, Antonis Tsiotsiopoulos and Elena Topalidou, with the latter also picking up the Iris for Best Actress in a Leading Role. The fifth prize for the film went to Lefteris Volanis, for Best Original Score.

Another debuting director, Araceli Lemos, snagged the Best Director Award for her Locarno-premiered feature Holy Emy [+lire aussi :

, which racked up the most nominations of the night, with a total of 15. The second award for the film was handed to Hasmine Killip, as Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Furthermore, the Berlinale Encounters film Moon, 66 Questions [+lire aussi :

by first-time director Jacqueline Lentzou received two Irises: Best Actor in a Leading Role for Lazaros Georgakopoulos and Best Editing for Smaro Papaevangelou. As for the other performance-related accolade, Aris Servetalis picked up Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Pack of Sheep [+lire aussi :

by Dimitris Kanellopoulos, which was originally nominated for ten prizes.

When it came to the technical awards, the clear winner was the historical drama Smyrna, directed by Grigoris Karantinakis, which received five out of the 12 Irises it was in the running for. Among them were Best Cinematography for Simos Sarketzis, Best Make-up, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Special and Visual Effects. Finally, Monday [+lire aussi :

, the fourth feature film by Argyris Papadimitropoulos, which had notched up 13 nods, had to make do with the Best Sound Iris, which was handed to Leandros Ntounis and Roland Heap.
