Europa Distribution has renewed its long-term partnership with the San Sebastián International Film Festival, where industry professionals and independent distributors will gather for a public panel and a private workshop, to focus on marketing trends, strategies and creative approaches to target and reach audiences.

The event will start with the open panel “Reconstruction: How to create the spark to reignite the passion of audiences for diverse, exciting and risk-taking European film”, taking place on Monday 19 September at 10:00-11:30 in the Function Hall of the San Telmo Museum. In recent years, the daily work of film professionals has been greatly impacted by the changes brought by two years of pandemic and the consequent cinema closures. Publishers and distributors have kept adapting to new realities and releasing films, both in theatres and online. This flexibility still remains a key asset, as the way consumers are watching films is evolving. This is paving the way for innovative and creative marketing, and distribution strategies designed to increase the audience reach both in cinemas and across additional platforms.
This panel will be a unique occasion to discuss and dissect the new trends in film marketing and promotion, focusing on how professionals in different territories implement and define strategies to reach out to audiences and get them to embrace the rich diversity of films on offer.

The speakers will be Andrei Agudaru (distributor, Transilvania Film, Romania), Ben Johnson (marketing Expert, GRUVI, Denmark), Katarzyna Orisiak-Marrison (distributor, Gutek Film, Poland) and Anne Vierhout (distributor, Cinema Delicatessen, The Netherlands). The panel will be moderated by British journalist and media consultant Michael Gubbins.

The open panel will be followed by a closed workshop on Tuesday 20 September afternoon. In the Digital era keeping up to date with what’s new out there is very time consuming, but essential for publishers who want to stay at the top of their game.  The scope of this session is to foster exchange between distributors on diverse marketing tools and strategies recently put in place to reach out to audiences and attract them to the screen, big or small. The workshop is broken down into 3 sessions: the seminar “What are the last trends to promote films at best online and attract audiences?” by Ben Johnson, marketing expert and founder of the digital marketing company GRUVI; working groups for distributors to discuss their marketing strategies and ideas to get the audiences back; a final wrap-up session for each group to share the outcome of their discussions with the rest of the participants.
