, the latest film by Isaki Lacuesta, will officially kick off the 24th edition of Abycine (29 September-7 October), a festival headed up by José Manuel Zamora which brings together the best of Spanish indie film, both in its screening schedule and in its industry sidebar (dubbed Abycine Lanza; more details of the projects set to be presented here will be published on Cineuropa shortly). The activities and screenings will then continue until Friday 7 October, when a musical and visual extravaganza created by Clacowsky – Los galgos sedientos & Las solfamidas, as part of the Abycine Creative Laboratory, will put the psychedelic finishing touch to this gathering which, this year, has brought forward its dates by a month. Another novelty for this edition is that the Abycine Foundation is launching AB Audiovisual, a brand that will be nurtured by the City Council and the Provincial Government of Albacete, with the ultimate aim of promoting film shoots and training for professionals, and further developing Abycine Lanza.

In the Abycine Indie section, audiences will be able to enjoy El agua [+lire aussi :

Abycine Shorts will screen titles that represent a wealth of emerging and well-established names in Spanish cinema. The creativity of the regional and local audiovisual landscape will take centre stage in the Hecho en Castilla-La Mancha (lit. “Made in Castilla La Mancha”) and the first Albacete Creative Audiovisual Competition sections, the latter of which is being coordinated jointly with the Albacete Youth Centre this year. The short films in these sections can be watched – and voted for, in the case of Hecho en Castilla-La Mancha – on the CMMPlay website, a platform for digital content run by the public organisation Castilla-La Mancha Media.

In addition, a strand called Enfoques (lit. “Focuses”) has been created, which gathers together key features from this season’s crop of Spanish indie cinema, which all explore the problems and preoccupations of youth: the titles set to be screened are Fail Better by Eva Garrido, The Rite of Spring [+lire aussi :

Lastly, the AB Audiovisual Foundation – Territorios sidebar has also seen the light of day. This initiative has been set up together with Cultural Albacete in order to exhibit recent Spanish films that reflect on the relationships between the urban and rural environments within an overarching context of social change; this section will premiere the hard-hitting The Beasts [+lire aussi :
