At its second edition, Mirage is set to present an extensive industry programme that will not only address important topics such as financing and new release opportunities, but will also dig deep into the creative and artistic sides of documentary and hybrid cinema. Running from 13-15 October, Mirage Professionals aims to establish a meeting place in Oslo for the Norwegian and international industry.
In detail, on Thursday 13 October, under the banner “Fighting to Protect Artistic Film”, a number of industry veterans – producer Elisa Fernanda Pirir (Mer Film), producer Ingvil Giske (Medieoperatørene), documentary consultant at the NFI Klara Grunning and head of section for artistic assessment at the NFI Silje Rise Næss – will discuss financing models intended to protect artistic freedom. Through a series of case studies, the “Challenges and Opportunities of the Hybrid Space” will also be explored, and a master class by Irena Taskovski, about creative distribution strategies, will follow up on this. The last discussion, on “Learning How to Fly: How to Reach an Audience”, will involve Eroll Bilibani, festival programmer at Dokufest; Bojana Maric, sales agent at Lightdox; Sara Ruster, festival manager for docs and shorts at the Swedish Film Institute; and Cato Fossum, of Jack Filmbyrå.
The next day, dubbed “The Craft of Cinema”, will feature a master class on “Visual Soundscapes in The Eclipse [+lire aussi :

fiche film]) taking part in a round-table discussion led by Sir Roger Deakins.
It should be noted that Oscar winner Deakins will also be leading a cinematography master class on Saturday, in cooperation with FNF - The Norwegian Society of Cinematographers. On the same day, there will also be a conversation about the term “non-fiction”, involving Mike Sperlinger, professor at KHiO; Erika Balsom, critic and scholar at King’s College, London; and Matteo Tortone, filmmaker and producer of Mother Lode. The day will wrap up with award-winning Finnish Foley artist and sound designer Heikki Kossi doing a live sound performance and workshop that explores the possibilities of sounds in film.
As for Sunday, the last day of Mirage, it is labelled “Discover the World of Image Making”. Nataša Urban, director of the award-festooned movie The Eclipse, will introduce professional audiences to subjects such as analogue film and filming on Super 8. Mirage will wrap up by exploring the different ways in which film and literature are related to non-fiction.
