The Lazio Region is getting back to supporting international film. On 7 December, Lazio Cinema International is launching its second call for 2022, an initiative supporting international film co-productions involving Lazio-based audiovisual firms and stumping up an overall sum of 10 million euros per year in two separate instalments. Candidates will have until 12 January 2023 to submit their applications for this year’s second funding window.

“By way of this call, we’re offering further support of 5 million euros to the film and audiovisual sector, with the primary aim of supporting film production in the Lazio region”, explained the Lazio Region’s Deputy Vice President Daniele Leodori. “In so doing, the Region is confirming its commitment to enhancing the competitiveness of film production endeavours and ensuring greater visibility for the Lazio region’s tourist attractions”, added the Lazio Region’s Film Delegate Giovanna Pugliese and the Regional Councillor for Economic Development Paolo Orneli.

The call is endowed with 5 million euros, half of which will go to audiovisual works of regional interest. The proposed aid is non-reimbursable and commensurate with the works’ eligible, incurred costs; the maximum sum awarded to each project will be 500,000 euros and will be limited to 35% of eligible costs.

Recipients will include SMEs and independent co-producers or producers who are listed on the Italian Business Register (or the equivalent register in the given EU member state), whose tax residence is in Italy, whose operating headquarters are in the Lazio region, and who have the operative and “financial capacity” to deliver the audiovisual work in question.

This initiative supports the production of international audiovisual works with Italian and foreign revenue shares, works which are classified as international co-productions or international productions, and non-cinematographic audiovisual works recognised as Italian.

One new development in this year’s edition is that works will be ranked during the selection process; eligible works deemed suitable by the Technical Assessment Committee will receive funding in line with the score they receive, until the funds in question are exhausted, also taking into account the amount reserved for Works of Regional Interest.

Applications should be sent via the GeCoWeb Plus di Lazio Innova platform between 12 noon on 7 December 2022 and 6pm on 12 January 2023.
