Filming is about to wrap on the set of Niclas Bendixen’s sophomore feature, titled Rome. The Copenhagen-born helmer is best known for the series Ditte & Louise (2015-2016) and the feature version of the show, Ditlev & Louise [+lire aussi :

fiche film] (2018). The series revolved around Ditte Hansen and Louise Mieritz’s time in the acting industry, as they fought against chauvinistic and sexist tendencies.
Rome is a life-affirming romantic drama about Gerda (Bodil Jørgensen) and Kristoffer (Kristian Halken), who arrive in the Italian capital on an extended weekend trip to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. Together, they relive the city where Gerda used to study art when she was young. But the trip doesn’t go quite as planned, as the couple meet Gerda’s charismatic art teacher and former flame Johannes (Rolf Lassgård). Kristoffer ends up on the sidelines, while Gerda chases her youth in the streets and alleys of Rome to confront the ghosts of the past.

Rome is being produced by Andreas Hjortdal and Jesper Morthorst for Denmark’s Motor, in co-production with Italy’s Vivo Film and Sweden’s GimmeABreak, and with co-financing from TV2 Denmark and SVT. It has also received backing from the Danish Film Institute, the Swedish Film Institute and Eurimages. Filming in Rome is scheduled to wrap on 17 March, with an extra day of filming in Denmark scheduled for 21 March.
Scanbox is in charge of its domestic release, slated for 2024.
