Argentina, 1985, directed by Santiago Mitre, was the big winner of the tenth-anniversary edition of the Platino Awards, which were handed out in Madrid on Saturday and are promoted by EGEDA (the Society for Audiovisual Producers’ Rights Management) along with FIPCA (the Ibero-American Federation of Film and Audiovisual Producers). The movie pocketed the Award for Best Ibero-American Fiction Film, Ricardo Darín took home the Best Actor Award, and the film also bagged the Film and Education Values, Best Art Direction (Micaela Saiegh) and Best Screenplay Awards (the latter penned by the director together with Mariano Llinás).

Another production that was heavily rewarded during the night was The Beasts [+lire aussi :

fiche film], a French-Spanish flick that picked up four prizes: Best Director, for Rodrigo Sorogoyen; Best Supporting Actor, for Galicia’s Luis Zahera; Best Sound, for Aitor Berenguer, Fabiola Ordoyo and Yasmina Praderas; and Best Editing, for Alberto del Campo.

In terms of the performances, the Platinos also acknowledged Spaniard Laia Costa for her role in Lullaby [+lire aussi :

fiche film], granting her the Best Actress Award, while Susi Sánchez went home clutching the statuette for Best Supporting Actress for her work in the same family drama, helmed by Alauda Ruiz de Azua. Meanwhile, Chile’s 1976, helmed by Manuela Martelli, scooped the Best Feature Debut Award, whereas Best Animated Film was deemed to be the Mexican title Águila y Jaguar: Los guerreros legendarios by Mike R Ortiz.

Last of all, it’s worth noting that the Colombian-Chilean series News of a Kidnapping was another one of the winners, making off with four trophies: for Best Miniseries or TV Series, Best Creator of a Series for Chile’s Andrés Wood, Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Series for Colombia’s Cristina Umaña, and Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or TV Series for her fellow countrywoman Majida Issa.

Argentina’s Guillermo Francella emerged clutching the Best Actor in a Miniseries or TV Series Award for The One in Charge, and his compatriot Alejandro Awada was presented with the Best Supporting Actor Award in a Miniseries or TV Series for Yosi, the Regretful Spy.
