An awards ceremony has brought an end to the tenth edition of Primer Test, the professionally orientated section with which REC – Tarragona International Film Festival grants a platform to projects that are currently in post-production and are seeking advice from distributors, programmers and sales agents. Through initiatives such as discussions and professional conferences, as well as one-to-one meetings with national and international experts, Primer Test has proven itself as an effective platform that attempts to lift the veil on the cinema of tomorrow.

Of the nine projects that were competing for the 2023 Primer Test awards, Mamífera [+lire aussi :

fiche film] was the one that eventually took home the Tallinn Industry International WIP Award, which entails participation in Baltic Event at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, as well as the Personalised Follow-up Award, which will see an expert in marketing and distribution strategies provide a series of follow-up consultations on the chosen project for six months.

The International Deluxe Award – which includes the production of digital copies with English subtitles, destined to aid the promotion of the film, as well as two screenings in the company’s movie theatre and the delivery of the film to festivals for selection purposes for one year – was bestowed upon the project Las muertes de Chantyorinti by Hermes Paracuello. Meanwhile, the National Deluxe Award, which also offers the production of subtitled copies and two screenings of the film for programmers and press in the firm’s movie theatre, went to My Sextortion Diary [+lire aussi :

fiche film] by Patricia Franquesa. El aspirante, helmed by Juan Gautier, snagged the Málaga Work in Progress Award, which means that the project is automatically selected for the upcoming edition of the Málaga Film Festival’s industry sidebar, in 2024. Lastly, The Human Hibernation [+lire aussi :

fiche film] by Anna Cornudella pocketed the CineMart Catalan Films Award, which comes with an accreditation to take part in the industry activities and the CineMart co-production market at IFFR.

The activities in the professional strand were wrapped up by the Screening Test initiative, which invites Tarragona audiences to weigh up an as-yet unfinished and unreleased production. The viewers’ feedback will allow the film’s creators to think more carefully about their audience before embarking on a festival-circuit run and reaching theatre screens with it.
