(together with the main actress, Aina Clotet).

The film is inspired by Basque author Katixa Agirre's novel Mothers Don’t (published in 2018) and tells the story of María, a young new mother and writer haunted by the case of another who coldly murdered her twin babies; writing about this scandal is the only way to understand her own radical experience of motherhood.

). Co-written with Valentina Viso, the film is conceived as an intimate drama, with touches of mystery, bordering on a psychological thriller. Salve Maria tackles the tension and complexity of fragile motherhood, bringing us closer to an indisputable reality, from the perspective of empathy and understanding. It is currently being shot for seven weeks in Barcelona, Vall de Boí (Lleida Pyrenees) and Tarragona.

In the words of its director, "the protagonist is a repentant mother, an association of words that creates an automatic unease. How can you disown a baby: the most helpless, innocent and pure being there is? Well, you can. But motherhood has been so under-represented and so partially represented in often a softness that any dissonant experience has been buried by taboo.”

Salve Maria is a production by Escándalo Films and Elastica Films with the support of ICEC and ICAA, and the participation of RTVE and Movistar Plus+. It will be distributed in Spain by Elastica Films and its international sales will be handled by the Belgian agency Be for Films.
