This laboratory is an initiative by CREA (Galician Association of Filmmaking and Directing Professionals) with the support of the City Council of Pontevedra and financing from the ICAA and the European Union-NextGenerationEU, as well as the sponsorship of the Xunta de Galicia (through Agadic) and DAMA.
Of the six projects selected this year, three are from Galicia: the magical realism drama As cárcavas, by Vigo-born Sara Traba, which tells the story of a girl who travels from Germany to Galicia to see a piece of land she has just inherited; the absurd, crazy, choral comedy La increíble historia de cómo un cubo de agua destruyó un edificio, by Gon Caride, which features sixty-year-old Rosa, who inadvertently sets off a chain reaction that will connect all the neighbours and cause their homes to be demolished; and As aspas, by Berio Molina, which shows three people with a neurodivergent condition (deafness and autism), with a sensitivity towards the language that surrounds their daily lives, and who live their lives independently and rebelliously, confronting a society that is not ready to accept them.
The other three projects, all Spanish, are: the feature-length documentary Wolf Game, by Patricia Echeverría and Liebe Blekh, which delves into the rural universe where marginalised youth abandon their urban lives to become shepherds and take over biblical lands in the West Bank through shepherding, while half a world away, engineers build agricultural empires in the metaverse through a game of cryptocurrencies; the coming-of-age Aniagua, by Catalan Marina Rúbies, where an 18-year-old girl whose poor relationship with her mother, the recent death of her grandmother and lack of friends lead to a nervous bulimia that she does not know how to manage, but whose life will change after she starts working in a luxury resort in Fuerteventura; and the fiction series Viven al lado, a thriller with comic elements by the trio Samuel Lema, Elena Martínez and Jorge Navarro, which tells the story of how a failed mother in a luxurious housing development, faced with a debt that could take her home away from her, commits a robbery that ends in murder, but her panic-stricken neighbours form a neighbourhood patrol that brings her darkest secrets to light.
