Not only will Philibert open MajorDocs 2024, but he will also lead a master class in which he will share his creative processes and his vision of cinematography. The screening of On the Adamant will be one of the showstoppers of the festival, allowing attendees to enjoy this award-winning work in unique surroundings.
Among the novelties at this edition is CalmaDocs, a programme of residencies tutored by filmmaker and editor Diana Toucedo. This programme will culminate in a pitching session headed up by Zeynep Güzel, from Berlinale Talents, in front of programmers, producers and other documentary professionals, providing a unique platform for new talents.
Furthermore, the sessions for professionals at MajorDocs 2024 will include debates on the work of female DoPs and a panel set to discuss the challenges facing documentary film festivals, with the involvement of international programmers. This Doc Session will offer an in-depth and varied vision of the current cinematography landscape in the field of documentary film.
Pressing on with its commitment to fostering the creation of docs among young people, MajorDocs will introduce a series of mentorships for feature debuts. These initial projects will form part of the festival’s programme, giving a snapshot of emerging talent and offering a valuable opportunity to new filmmakers. The Educa and Comunidad strands will also be expanded, making the festival programme easier to access for a broader audience, and promoting an open and enriching debate about the movies that will be screened.
MajorDocs is a project overseen by Mosaic and El Obrador, and it boasts support from Palma Town Council, the University of the Balearic Islands, the ICAA and Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), via the Programme for the Internationalisation of Spanish Culture (PICE). In addition, it has secured sponsorship from the Majorca Tourism Foundation and is run in conjunction with the Saratoga Hotel, thus ensuring the support needed for this internationally relevant cultural event to take place successfully.
