Yesterday, 11 August, Locarno Pro, the industry sidebar of the Locarno Film Festival (7-17 August), announced the winning projects of the First Look and Alliance 4 Development sections as well as those of the Heritage Restoration Contest.

This year, First Look showcased six upcoming Spanish projects (see the report). The strand’s top prize went to Dream of Another Summer by Irene Bartolomé, staged by Pere Marzo for Colibrí Studio (Spain), the helmer herself for IB Films (Spain) and Elie Kamal for The Attic Productions (Lebanon). The project scooped the Antaviana Films First Look Award, covering post-production services up to €50,000. Meanwhile, the Music Library &SFX/Acorde Award, worth €45,000 in music supervision services, went to Downriver, A Tiger by Víctor Diago, produced by Montse Pujol Solà, of Spain’s Boogaloo Films, which also nabbed the award provided by Laserfilm cine y vídeo, worth €5,000.

Next, the Jannuzzi Smith Award, covering the design of an international poster (worth €10,000), was bestowed upon Mares by Ariadna Seuba (Spain), whilst the Le Film Français Award (worth €5,600 in advertising space) was presented to Enrique Buleo’s Still Life with Ghosts (Spain/Serbia).

The First Look prizes were handed out by an international jury made up of Beatrice Fiorentino, Kerem Ayan and Mercedes Martínez-Abarca.

Alliance 4 Development, the co-development programme for projects in development from Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland (see the report), also wrapped yesterday. Bourgeois Paranoia by Lukas Nathrath, produced by Linus Günther for Germany’s Klinkerfilm Production, snagged the Alphapanda Market Breakout Award, whilst the Script Consultancy Residency at DreamAgo offered by the Valais Film Commission went to 6 Months 6 Days by Michale Boganim, produced by Mathilde Leite for France’s Vilanova Productions and co-produced by Dorothe Beinemeier for Germany’s Red Balloon Film. Furthermore, Hakim Mao’s Atlantic Mirage, produced by Emma Binet and Charles Meresse, of Furyo Films (France), received the MIDPOINT Consulting Award, and Alessandro Grande’s Ithaca, produced by Alessandro Amato and Luigi Chimienti for Italy’s dispàrte, took home the Ticino Film Commission Residence Award.

Finally, Liliana Cavani’s 1969 flick The Year of the Cannibals won the second edition of the Heritage Restoration Contest, following an open call published back in March. The film, repped by Minerva Pictures, will undergo a full restoration process by film lab Cinegrell and will be screened at the Locarno Film Festival next year.
