The Berlinale Co-Production Market is hosting the 11th edition of the Co-Pro Series event, where ten high-calibre series projects from Europe, Brazil, New Zealand, Canada and the USA will take centre stage. Scheduled for 18 and 19 February, the industry event includes a pitching session, networking opportunities and one-on-one meetings with top-tier partners.

On 18 February, the pitches will unfold at CinemaxX, offering a glimpse into compelling narratives from Europe, North America, South America and beyond. A networking event and hundreds of meetings will follow at Octogon at Leipziger Platz, connecting producers and creators with potential collaborators, including co-producers, distributors, financiers and broadcasters.

This year’s projects feature prominent creators and thought-provoking narratives. Danish writer and creator Maja Jul Larsen, known for Borgen, The Legacy and Cry Wolf [+lire aussi :

, joins forces with director Charlotte Sieling (The Bridge, Borgen, Homeland) for The Best of Families. Produced by Apple Tree Productions, this Danish drama explores the societal and environmental impact of a 1950s chemical factory. From Brazil and the USA comes Miami Wildlife, a series about an unconventional drug lord, with Fernando Meirelles among its directors.

Austria presents Shit Happens, chronicling the true story of a single mother leading a large hashish ring in Vienna at the turn of the millennium. German filmmaker Julian Pörksen, recently honoured with an Emmy, adapts Die Experten, based on Merle Kröger's novel. The series examines German rocket scientists in 1960s Egypt against a backdrop of espionage and political tension. In The Guard, a Swiss crime series, the Vatican’s Swiss Guard becomes entangled in corruption and clandestine dealings. The Slovakian-Czech project Our People, directed by Tereza Nvotová (Nightsiren [+lire aussi :

), which was awarded Best Pitch Project at Series Mania 2024 (see the interview), continues to seek partners, aiming to build on its strong start with critical financing.

Several English-language series are also part of the line-up. In Ruth’s Ghosts, Jennifer Fox (The Tale) weaves a dystopian narrative about abortion, self-determination and societal constraints in the USA. Meanwhile, Lucy. Maud. delves into the life of Anne of Green Gables author LM Montgomery, revealing the complexity behind her global literary success. Ireland contributes Recipes for a Nervous Breakdown, the dynamic and darkly humorous true story of chef and author Sophie White, who has to learn to deal with a sudden mental breakdown at a young age, presented by Deadpan Pictures. From New Zealand, Sk8 or Die explores the tumultuous life of barefoot skateboarder Lee Ralph. It zooms in on a turbulent existence teetering between success, freedom and personal setbacks, and is being crafted by award-winning duo Tom Hern and Halaifonua Finau.
