Amidst a landscape where the film industry is constantly seeking innovation and originality, LIM (Less Is More) has launched its 2025 call for Development Angels. The training programme, tailored for film-industry professionals, is designed to strengthen their ability to navigate the complex development phase of feature-film projects. The call is open until Sunday 23 February, welcoming applications from creative producers, story editors, development executives, commissioning editors and other industry professionals who aspire to hone their skills and redefine the art of script development.
LIM’s use of the term “Development Angels” reflects its holistic and collaborative approach to storytelling. Moving beyond the traditional concept of “story editors”, the programme fosters teamwork among script professionals, producers, sales agents, film-fund managers and other stakeholders in the filmmaking process. The focus is on evolving shared tools and a common language that can support writers and directors while shaping narratives imbued with emotion and originality.
Recognising the importance of collective wisdom, LIM’s methodology draws upon insights from cognitive sciences, anthropology and oral storytelling traditions. These disciplines inform the tools and techniques employed during the programme, helping participants guide auteurs through the early phases of story development where a project’s structure, emotional core and unique perspective are forged. By embracing limitations as a positive and creative force, the Development Angels help auteurs craft stories that resonate deeply with audiences.
The LIM 2025 training programme begins with an online workshop scheduled for 16 and 19 September, designed to introduce participants to LIM’s tools and approaches that can be applied directly to their professional practice. This online segment sets the stage for an on-site residency from 27 September-3 October at the Le Groupe Ouest camp in Plounéour-Brignogan-Plages, France. During this residency, participants will engage in hands-on workshops, work on projects in their early development phase and refine their feedback techniques. The residency concludes with attendance at LIM MEET, an international gathering where participants connect with filmmakers and industry professionals, offering a platform for collaboration and the exchange of ideas.
Applicants interested in joining LIM’s 2025 training programme must submit a biography detailing their experience and filmography, and a face-to-camera video titled “Tell Us”. This unedited video should convey their relationship to storytelling, their expectations for the programme, and their interest in exploring new tools to streamline the narrative process. Applications must be submitted through the online form available on LIM’s website.
By fostering collaboration and promoting innovative storytelling techniques, LIM’s Development Angels initiative continues to pave the way for a more inclusive and dynamic film industry. The programme is open to participants from or residing in the European Union, Eurimages countries, non-EU countries participating in the Creative Europe programme, and the UK.
