The success of The Boy with Pink Pants, which reflects upon bullying, the importance of accepting diversity and respecting individual choices, has caused a real stir in Italy, indicating that there are definitely films out there which are capable of speaking both to adolescents and their parents, which is no easy thing, even for North American titles. The movie is now at the heart of an announced strategic partnership between Piper Film and Eagle Pictures, which will take its first steps in the upcoming European Film Market (running 13 – 19 February), hosted by the Berlinale.
The collaboration will consist of Piper Film distributing a variety of Eagle Pictures’ Italian films worldwide, such as The Boy with Pink Pants, while Eagle Pictures’ Home Entertainment division will manage Home Video and Transactional rights for Piper Film’s titles, starting with Parthenope.
“Both our agencies”, Piper Film CEO Massimiliano Orfei remarked, “share an innovative and independent spirit within the wider Italian film and audiovisual landscape, and that’s why I believe this collaboration will be hugely valuable for the parties involved and for the wider market”. CEO of Eagle Pictures Andrea Goretti stressed that “we’re very happy about this partnership with Piper Film, a new independent player which turned up at the market with a highly ambitious project, and we’re especially determined to make sure that this is only the beginning of a collaborative journey which might evolve even further in the future. I’m convinced that, thanks to the work of Piper Film’s international sales team led by Catia Rossi, our films will find their place within the international market.”
Another film set to be presented in Berlin’s EFM is Tiziano Russo’s romantic comedy Fatti vedere, toplined by Matilde Gioli, Francesco Centorame and Asia Argento, and set for release in Italy on 6 February via Eagle Pictures. Piper Film’s international movies also include another two soon-to-be-released Eagle Pictures films: Leopardi & Co by Federica Biondi, starring an international cast including British actor Jeremy Irvine, Italy’s Denise Tantucci and American star Whoopi Goldberg, and Gianluca Manzetti’s thriller, Dedalus, starring Luka Zunic and Matilde Gioli.
